The owner of a Rochester nail salon has pleaded guilty to defrauding the Food Stamp program.
Federal prosecutors say 46-year-old Hang Lam was charged with unauthorized use and transfer of SNAP Benefits after they learned her business was trafficking in food stamp benefits for cash, nail services and other non-food items. Her business doesn't sell food and isn't authorized to accept food stamps. She was getting customers to give her the PIN number from their EBT benefits cards and processing them at various markets that did accept food stamps.
Prosecutors say investigators have tracked down $26,000 in fraudulent transactions.
