NYS Law Takes Effect Decriminalizing Small Amounts of Marijuana

The state's new law decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana is taking effect today.

Governor Cuomo signed the bill last month.

Starting today, having an ounce or less will result in a fine of up to 50 dollars, and having between one and two ounces will result in a penalty of up to 200 dollars.

Those offenses are no longer misdemeanors.

The law also allows those with certain misdemeanor marijuana convictions to have their records expunged.
