Three Rochester area contractors have been fined for allegedly defrauding the Rochester Schools Modernization Program.
The program -- which oversees renovation and improvement projects at school buildings in the city -- has a Diversity Plan attached to it. That plan helps minority-owned businesses get work on the projects.
Federal prosecutors say Journee Construction, Bell Mechanical Contractors, and Kaplan Schmidt Electric submitted false documentation that they had complied with the Diversity Plan.
The alleged fraud took place in 2013.
Journee was fined $70,000; Bell was fined $50,000; and Kaplan Schmidt Electric was fined $25,000.
