Algae Closes Kershaw Beach in Canandaigua

Blue green algae has closed a popular beach on Canandaigua Lake. Kershaw Beach in Canandaigua was closed today after the algae, also known as cyanobacteria, was found in the water.

New York State Department of Health officials were at the beach today taking water samples. Until the state labs process them and give an all clear, the beach will remain closed for swimming.

Kershaw is one of nine sites around Canandaigua Lake being tested for the presence of blue green algae, which thrives in warm water.
