First Defendants Sentenced in Islamburg Bomb Plot

Two of the four suspects who pleaded guilty in a plot to attack an Islamic community in the Southern Tier have been sentenced.

Andrew Crysel and Brian Colaneri will each serve four-to-12 years in prison, after pleading guilty to charges of second-degree conspiracy related to terrorism. They were part of a group that also included Vincent Vetromile and Nicholas Pheilshifter. All were arrested after a tip to Greece Police. Both Crysel and Colaneri apologized for their actions.

Many Islamberg residents were in court, including Tahira Clark, who said the entire community is thankful the plot was broken up and they hope it's the last against their town.

Officers executing search warrants found three improvised explosive devices, as well as shotguns and rifles the four had planned to use in an attack on Islamberg, east of Binghamton. The other two suspects will be sentenced in the coming weeks.
