Tom Torpey, Former Rochester Mob Bodyguard, Dies

Reputed Rochester mob bodyguard Thomas Torpey has died following complications from a fall. Torpey was the bodyguard for mob boss Salvatore “Sammy G” Gingello who was killed in a car explosion in 1978 in downtown Rochester. Torpey went to prison in 1985, after two trials, for hiring Joseph "Mad Dog" Sullivan to kill rival gang member John Fiorino in Irondequoit. Torpey and Sullivan always insisted they were innocent. Sullivan died two years ago.
