Officers Injured After Trying to Disarm Man Who Pulled Gun

Two Rochester Police officers were injured while trying to disarm a man who pulled a gun on them. Investigators say two officers were on routine patrol around 6:30 p.m. on Weyl Street when it happened. Police have been called to the area several times for drug activity and loitering. Investigators say the officers approached a group of people and asked for identification when one of the men pulled out a loaded handgun. Police identified the suspect as Treiquan Hawkins, 26. The officers said they began to fight with Hawkins over the handgun. It was knocked to the ground at one point but officers said Hawkins then picked it up again. The officers gained possession of the weapon and took Hawkins into custody.Both officers suffered minor hand/arm injuries.Hawkins was charged Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Menacing of a Police Officer, 2 counts of Assault 2nd on a Police Officer, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
