Algae Blooms Spotted in Hemlock Lake

Something that looks like potentially harmful blue-green algae has been spotted in Hemlock Lake -- a major source of drinking water for the City of Rochester.

The algae can be toxic for people and animals, but city officials say it has had no effect on the city's water supply. The algae sighting was reported last week on a state alert page. Several other Finger Lakes have confirmed blooms.
