Monroe County is seeing a decrease in overdoses from heroin, fentanyl, or other related substances.
Medical Examiner Dr. Nadia Granger says that for the first time since 2015 there has been a decrease in overdoses.
Monroe County officials say in 2017 there were 220 overdose deaths, compared to the 195 deaths in 2018. Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley put out a statement and says even though its on the decline, 195 is still a terrifying number. She goes on to say that the opioid epidemic is far from over and there is still work to do with awareness, prevention and education.
