Fire Hits Abandoned Psychiatric Center

Some 60 firefighters responded last night when fire broke out at the old Rochester Psychiatric Center on Elmwood Avenue.

Firefighters found a rubbish fire on the second floor and people trapped by smoke on the roof. They had to shelter in place until the smoke cleared. Authorities also escorted five people out of the building. It's been abandoned for about 20 years, but urban explorers and people who want to investigate rumors that it's haunted often get in.

A department spokesman says firefighters worked through the night to make sure nobody was left in the building.
