Rochester Police Chief Vows Crackdown on Illegal Guns After Shootings

Rochester Police Chief La'Ron Singletary says his department is launching a crackdown on illegal guns and the people who carry them after the recent surge in shootings on city streets.

The department held a planning session this afternoon, developing its response after four people, including an eight-year-old child, were shot and wounded during a two-hour period last night. Singletary called that “mind boggling.”

Chief Singletary says his focus is to make it "very uncomfortable" for those who carry and use illegal guns in Rochester. He says there will be roving patrols and more officers stopping cars and people on the street with probably cause to search for guns. He says special resources and overtime will be used to get more officers on the streets and seize more illegal guns.
