Challenger Beats Democratic Party's Designated Candidate

The challenger continues to lead in a close Rochester City Council primary race, and the Democratic Party's endorsed candidate says he's the winner.

The Board of Elections has not yet certified the election between Democrats Jose Peo and LaShana Boose...but they say today that Peo is leading with 720 votes to 699 for Boose, who was the Democratic Party's designated candidate. One week after the election, officials appear to have counted all absentee and affidavit ballots that turned out to be valid.

Boose has issued a statement saying "unfortunately, we came up short by 21 votes." Boose says she's humbled by the support she received in her attempt to serve on City Council. But she says now is the time for Democrats to come together behind Peo on behalf of the Northwest District.
