WATCH: Medal of Honor Ceremony for WNY Native David Bellavia

Western New York native David Bellavia is being honored in Washington, D.C. for his heroism during the Iraq War.

He is receiving the Medal of Honor during a ceremony at the White House, this afternoon. The Medal of Honor is the highest military distinction.

The military says Bellavia helped save his platoon by providing cover for his fellow soldiers to escape.

The men had become trapped while clearing buildings in Fallujah back in 2004. Bellavia is also credited with killing insurgents. He is the first living Iraq veteran to get the nation's highest military honor.
