Lakeshore Flood Warning In Effect for Lake Ontario

The National Weather Service has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning for Lake Ontario.

The warning went into effect at 10 o'clock this morning, and will stay in effect until 10 o'clock tonight for Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, and Jefferson counties.

The combination of record high lake levels and strong west winds will result in large waves and an increase in lakeshore flooding.

Meanwhile, the International Joint Commission will hold a conference call this morning to discuss Plan 2014.

Opponents blame the new regulatory plan for the current flooding along the Lake Ontario shoreline.

The commission said earlier this week that it doesn't have the power to alter or replace the plan. It said that would have to be a long-term process, involving the approval of both the U.S. and Canadian governments.
