Senator Chuck Schumer is taking aim at pesky robocallers.
He says since January 1st, New York residents have been hit with hundreds of millions of robocalls, including scammers from overseas who call overnight.
He's introducing bi-partisan legislation that gives federal agencies the tools and authority to trace, prosecute and enforce fines against robocall scammers. He says the legislation is needed because the federal "Do Not Call" rules are ineffective. Americans received 47-point-7 billion robocalls in 2018, a 57 percent increase over the number of calls the year before.
