NYS Set to Offer Tax Breaks to Companies that Hire Recovering Addicts

New York state is set to begin offering tax breaks to companies that hire recovering addicts.

The tax breaks were part of the state budget. Governor Cuomo says it is a first-of-its-kind program in the US.

The program will offer tax incentives for "certified employers" that hire people who are in recovery from substance abuse, for either a part or full-time job.

The tax breaks will take effect starting in 2020 with the state offering $2,000 for each eligible employee. They will have to work a minimum of 500 hours before the tax credit takes effect.
