NY State Lawmakers: End Religious Exemption for Vaccines

With the number of measles cases increasing in New York, lawmakers are pushing for tougher new laws.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day is calling on state lawmakers to end the religious exemption for vaccines. He lobbied in Albany yesterday urging legislators to take action right away.

The move comes as the number of confirmed measles cases across the country continues to shoot up. The majority of the cases are in New York -- in Rockland and Brooklyn -- mainly in Orthodox Jewish communities.

Measles is a highly contagious disease that includes symptoms of rash, high fever and cough.
