A New York City woman is facing charges in a scam that cheated an elderly Ontario County man out of $5,000.
The sheriff's office calls it "the grandparent scam".
Someone called the man in January and told him his grandson was arrested in Atlanta and needed $5,000 to make bail. After the man wired the money, he got another call requesting money and that's when he called 911.
Authorities say the cash went to an account belonging to Merlyn Santiago, of the Bronx. She is charged with grand larceny.
