A man who was the suspect in an AMBER Alert in Genesee County last fall, is now facing federal charges.
Guillermo Torres-Acevedo of Batavia is charged with transporting a minor across state lines for sexual activity. Federal prosecutors say last November, Torres-Acevedo took his mother’s car and ran off with a 14-year-old girl. The two allegedly had a romantic relationship. Several days later the two were found in Pennsylvania after authorities were able to ping the victim's cell phone.
The federal charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and $250,000 fine. Torres-Acevedo is also facing charges in Genesee Co. including custodial interference, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child.
