A bill to give free college tuition to families of military members killed in the line of duty will not advance. The state Assembly's Higher Education Committee voted to hold the bill by a 15-to-11 vote. This means the bill will not make it to a floor vote this session. Some Assemblymen criticized the decision to not give financial aid to those who attend SUNY and CUNY schools, following lawmakers passing a state budget including tuition aid for undocumented immigrants. There was no immediate comment on why the bill was held.
