The del Lago Resort & Casino in Seneca County is seeking state approval to have fewer slot machines.
The casino tells the "USA Today's" Albany Bureau that having fewer machines will allow more room for a sports gaming parlor and other improvements.
Under current regulations, del Lago is required to have at least 1,950 slot machines.
Two of the three other state-licensed casinos -- Resorts World in the Catskills and Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier -- have already been given permission to have fewer slot machines.
Analysts say having fewer machines means lower lease costs for the casinos.
