NYS State Senator Catharine Young Resigns

State Senator Cathy Young is resigning.

She announced in a statement that she has taken a job leading the Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture at Cornell AgriTech.

Young was first elected to the state Senate in a special election in May of 2005, after serving in the Assembly from 1999 to 2005.

Her State Senate district covers Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and half of Livingston counties.

She called leaving the state senate 'bittersweet' and 'not an easy decision.'
