Monroe County Heroin Task Force Releases First Year Progress Report

Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter says the Monroe County Heroin Task Force has made progress stabilizing the area's opioid epidemic.

The Task Force is out with a one-year progress report.

It says there were 1101 reported overdoses in the county in the past 12 months, 159 deaths and 94 arrests.

During the year, 76 raids by law enforcement yielded more than $300,000 worth of heroin and fentanyl, nearly a pound of cocaine and crack, 29 guns and more than $300,000 in cash.

Baxter says continued intense enforcement, education and outreach are the keys to wiping out the epidemic.
