Bloomfield Motel Destroyed in Overnight Fire

The Red Cross is assisting eleven people who lost their homes when a fire overnight gutted a motel in Bloomfield.

The fire was reported around midnight at the Valley Motel on Routes 5 and 20. The first firefighters on the scene saw heavy smoke from the southernmost apartment. Deputies went door-to-door to evacuate the residents.

The wind helped spread the flames through the entire building. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

There is no word on the cause of the fire.
