- The state is getting behind seven planned renewable energy projects in the Greater Rochester area -- and 13 others statewide -- in support of the governor's clean energy goals.
- The projects include six big solar farms -- including one that would cover three square miles in Byron, and two roughly half that size in Caledonia and Mount Morris.
- They would be bigger than any solar farms now in operation in New York state. But several will likely face opposition from local officials and residents.
- The Mount Morris solar farm would be built on currently unused farmland between Letchworth State Park and Sonyea State Forest. The list of local clean energy projects also includes a planned wind farm in Orleans County.
