The Monroe County Jail has received a federal grant to fund opioid treatment services for men and women behind bars.
The $262,500 grant is funding the so-called Medication-Assisted Treatment Units at the jail. The programs combine behavioral therapy, counseling and FDA-approved medications to help inmates with substance use disorders.
The jail has set aside 53 beds for men and 20 for women. The programs are being offered to incoming inmates on a voluntary basis, and are separate from the existing drug and alcohol program.
