Now that Joe Morelle has moved from the State Assembly to Congress, we now know who will succeed him as Assembly Majority Leader. Speaker Carl Heastie has appointed Buffalo Assemblymember Crystal Peoples-Stokes to the position. She has represented the 141st District since 2003.
The majority leader is responsible for the day-to-day operational duties of the Assembly chamber, including overseeing the floor during debates. Peoples-Stokes has been an advocate for social justice and championed several criminal justice reforms.
