Some state lawmakers want legislation that checks for hate speech or violent threats in someone's online activity before a gun purchase. It would authorize state or local police to go over three years of a person's social media posts and one year of Internet searches as part of a gun background check. The proposal was prompted by last week's deadly synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh.
