Albany, NY -- The state's highest court, the Court of Appeals, has upheld the removal of Judge Leticia Astacio from the Rochester City Court bench.
In the 8-page ruling the Court said it considered the full spectrum of Astacio's behavior and "its impact on public perception of the judiciary."
The Court said, "Given petitioner’s apparent lack of insight into the gravity and impact of her behavior on both public perception of her fitness to perform her duties and on the judiciary overall, we conclude that any rupture in the public’s confidence cannot be repaired."
Astacio's removal was recommended earlier this year by the state's Commission on Judicial Conduct, in part because of her repeated violations of her 2016 DWI probation.
