Man and Woman Charged with Welfare Fraud in Wayne Co.

Authorities say a man and woman in Wayne County received nearly $70,000 in public assistance benefits while they ran a pizza shop and a bar in Waterloo.

The Sheriff's Office says Francis Steen and Alicia Sanders, of Savannah, didn't report the income from their businesses in Waterloo while they received benefits from Medicaid and the SNAP and HEAP programs. The alleged scam spanned more than five years.

Steen and Sanders are charged with grand larceny, welfare fraud, conspiracy and filing a false instrument.
