Now that states are legalizing sports betting, Senator Schumer is proposing what he says is "a desperately-needed federal framework" for the states.
His proposal focuses on three principles -- protecting young people and gambling addicts, protecting the integrity of sports, and protecting those who place bets.
Among other proposals, Schumer is encouraging states to prohibit anyone under the age of 21 from betting, and require that official league data be used to determine betting outcomes. He also wants to prohibit advertising that targets young people.
