Lima, NY -- The head of the Conservative Party in Livingston County is facing questions over the payment he received from Marjorie Byrnes, the Republican running in a primary against incumbent Republican state Assemblyman Joe Errigo.
NewsRadio WHAM1180's Bob Lonsberry broke the story. He says the $20,000 paid by Byrnes to Conservative party chair, Jason McGuire, was ostensibly a consulting fee. But the party also endorsed Byrnes, raising questions of a quid pro quo.
The Conservative Party has always endorsed Errigo in his past runs for the Assembly seat, and has given him very high marks for his votes in the Assembly.
Lonsberry reports McGuire has returned the payment, and reports the state Conservative Party has removed McGuire from a regional leadership position.
The 133rd Assembly District includes Livingston County and parts of Monroe and Steuben County.
