Some State Lawmakers Want Cameras Outside School Buses

Some state lawmakers want cameras to be installed on school buses to catch drivers who pass the buses illegally.

The cameras would be placed on the stop-arms on the buses. And the legislation would permit the video images to be used in issuing tickets to violators.

An estimate cited by state Senator Cathy Young shows more than 50-thousand drivers statewide illegally pass school buses every day.

States that have already approved similar legislation include Maryland, Connecticut, Georgia, North Carolina, Iowa, Virginia and Washington.
