State Lawmakers Finalize Budget Ahead of Deadline

The state has a new budget for the new fiscal year. The 168 billion dollar budget was finalized on Saturday -- one day ahead of the deadline.

Governor Cuomo says the budget protects many New Yorkers from recent changes to the federal tax code. It also requires people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence cases to surrender their guns and lose their gun licenses.

However it does not include an extension of the deadline for lawsuits from people who were sexually assaulted as children. It also does not include funding for early voting ahead of Election Day.
