Tops Markets has filed for bankruptcy reorganization under Chapter 11.
CEO Frank Curci calls it a voluntary restructuring that will help make the company stronger. He says all stores remain open and there is no effect on daily operations.
Tops is based near Buffalo and has about 170 stores in four states. There are about two dozen Tops stores in the Greater Rochester region.
The company says it is negotiating with its creditors.
