New York State's 52-thousand prison inmates will soon be getting tablets.
The New York State Department of Corrections plans to provide them for those incarcerated so they can buy e-books, music and access educational materials.
They'll also be able to communicate with family and friends through a specially regulated email system.
They will not be able to get internet access though. Officials say the tablets are provided by the company, JPay, free of charge as a way to help inmates re-integrate into society once they get out of prison.
