Arraignments are set for today for some of the eight people are facing federal cocaine charges following an investigation into shipments of cocaine sent by mail from Puerto Rico to a drug ring in Rochester.
Authorities raided six city addresses yesterday, and one raid on Burbank Street ended in gunfire. Police say the officers weren't hurt, and fired back -- wounding two men. One is in serious condition.
Federal prosecutors say Carlos Javier Figueroa led the ring and coordinated the shipments of cocaine.
The raids netted more than $600,000 in cash, six assault rifles, two loaded handguns, more than four pounds of cocaine, and some suspected heroin and fentanyl.
