Check the Database: Does NY Owe You Money?

The state is holding on to millions of dollars in unclaimed cash, and some of it may belong to you. State comptroller Tom DiNapoli says people lose track of the funds for a variety of reasons. People set money aside in a small savings account, overpaid an electric bill and then moved, etc.  If the institution can't track you down they have to clear the books and turn the credit over to the state. DiNapoli says to check for unclaimed funds you may have, search the web for "New York State Comptroller," and then click on Unclaimed Funds from the comptroller website's main page.
