NY Seeing Drastic Rise in Influenza cases

Governor Cuomo says New York state has seen a drastic rise in the number of influenza cases over the past week.  According to the Department of Health, cases of influenza rose by 54 percent and new cases were diagnosed in all counties around the state.  That's the highest weekly number since the Department of Health reporting began in 2004. Cuomo called on all New Yorkers ages 6 months and older who have not yet received a flu shot to get vaccinated as soon as possible.  During the last flu season, there were eight pediatric deaths in New York.

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:

  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills.
  • Cough.
  • Sore throat.
  • Runny or stuffy nose.
  • Muscle or body aches.
  • Headaches.
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
