The U.S. Department of Education has approved New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act plan.
The plan was submitted by the state for review in September, and the approval ensures that New York will continue to receive approximately $1.6 billion in annual funding from the Federal government to support elementary and secondary education in New York state schools.
The plan emphasizes fostering equity in education for New York’s students; expands measures for school support and accountability and student success; and requires school-level improvement plans for the lowest performing schools.
It also incentivizes districts to increase opportunities for all high school students to engage in advanced coursework.
