Area Christmas Tree Farms Trying to Send Trees to Troops Overseas

Area Christmas tree farms say some of the trees they shipped to area service members overseas were returned because of a new State Department limit on the size of packages sent to some countries abroad.

The tree farms say the change should have been better publicized, because a lot of money and effort went into preparing the trees for shipment. The farms had been involved in the programs for several years.

Senator Schumer wants the Postal Service to waive the new rules.

The local programs are separate from "Trees for Troops" -- a program co-sponsored by FedEx to send trees to bases overseas.
