Monroe County Legislature Approves County Budget

The Monroe County Legislature has approved the county's $1.2 billion budget for the coming year.

While spending is increasing more than 1 percent over the current budget, tax rates won't change. The vote was 26-3.

The budget includes funds for salary upgrades and 30 additional caseworkers at the Office of Child Protective Services and two new toxicologists at the Medical Examiner's Office.

Two proposals by Democrats were defeated on party line votes -- one would have offset a drop of salaries in the Probation Department and one would have added additional resources to child care services.
