Area lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are teaming up on a proposed ban on the sale of the herbal drug called kratom to people under 18.
Legislation introduced by Assembly Leader Joe Morelle and state Senator Pam Helming would prohibit minors from buying, possession or using any products containing kratom.
The lawmakers say it may have medical benefits worth studying, they say it also has a high potential for abuse and addiction. A federal ban is still under consideration.
