Missing Child Case Leads to RPD Internal Investigation

Both the Greece and Rochester Police Departments are investigating what was reported first as a missing child incident...but may involve a Rochester Police Investigator having driven while he was drunk.

Greece Police say a family member notified them a child was missing from Sherri Ann lane either late Thanksgiving night or early Friday morning. Multiple agencies responded, and eventually the child was found safe in bed at his father's home.

Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan says someone brought the boy home from the party on Sherri Ann Lane.

WHAM 1180's Bob Lonsberry says a number of officers have told him the child's father--the RPD investigator--apparently drove the child home, then drove back to the party and forgot about it. Chief Phelan says it's unclear who did the driving. He says people including the RPD investigator at Sherri Ann lane were "uncooperative" with his officers. He also says the boy's father was intoxicated.

The Rochester Police Department has referred this issue to its Professional Standards Section and according to a statement says a full internal investigation is underway to determine if any disciplinary action is warranted. Greece Police referred the matter to Child Protective Services because the child was left home alone.
