Democrats Win Big In Monroe County

Monroe County Democrats were the big winners on election night taking a number of seats held by Republicans.

In arguably the most surprising result of the night, Todd Baxter defeated incumbent Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn by a 56% to 42% margin.  O'Flynn was defeated by over 20,000 votes, after serving in the position for 16 years.

In the other high profile race, Republican Jack Moore lost his re-election bid for Henrietta Town Supervisor to Democrat Stephen Schultz 58% to 40%.  Moore has been involved in multiple controversies, including an EEOC complaint in which he is alleged to have used a racial slur and other inappropriate language around town employees.

Pending results from absentee ballots, in Clarkson it appears Democrat Gerald Underwood scored an upset over incumbent Republican Supervisor Paul Kimball by 39 votes.

Democrats also gained a seat in the County Legislature.  Howard Maffucci defeated Jason Rosenberg 57% to 43% in the race for the 10th district.  The district covers parts of Pittsford, Brighton and East Rochester.  Legislature President Anthony Daniele currently holds the seat, but he is term limited.
