A Rochester man has been sentenced to a year in prison for a marriage fraud scheme. Federal prosecutors say 30-year-old Jamar Thomas told a foreign national from Nigeria he could arrange fraudulent marriages between men who aren't U.S. citizens and women in Rochester who are. He said he'd arrange the marriages for $5,000 apiece to grant legal status in the U.S. to the non-citizens. The investigation using informants and undercover agents spanned ten months and wrapped up about a year ago. Three other people have been convicted in the case, and two have already been sentenced to probation. The third is awaiting sentencing.
