Meagan Merkel Pleads Guilty to Charge of Promoting Prison Contraband

The woman who was convicted of DWI in the 2012 crash that killed bicyclist Heather Boyum has pleaded guilty in another case. Meagan Merkel pleaded guilty to a charge of promoting prison contraband and will be sentenced next month. She was caught last winter with heroin baggies and a needle while in jail. The Monroe County D-A's office says she faces at least 3-and-a-half years in prison. Another case against her is still pending in Ontario County, where she was arrested in August for allegedly driving with crack cocaine and a revoked license.
