We may never know the story behind the skeletal remains of an infant found in January in a building under restoration on West Main Street in Rochester. According to police, the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office said the remains are human, but “not of forensic significance.” It means they aren’t able to determine anything further about them. Police said that evidence found along with the bones in January indicated the bones may be 100 years old. The owner of the building called police to report finding an old Texaco oil tin in the rafters while inspecting water damage to the ceiling. When he and a friend pried off the lid they found what appeared to be the skull and bones of a newborn child wrapped in newspaper and tied with string. Rochester Police say the can and the newspaper carried 1917 dates.
