A Rochester psychiatrist who pleaded guilty to illegally distributing a controlled substance is facing a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Federal prosecutors say Dr. Clifford Jacobson sold prescriptions for controlled substances like Xanax to patients who had no medical need for it. Authorities say between 2014 and 2017, he sold the illegal prescription for 120 dollars each, and got caught selling them to undercover agents. The plea is the result of an investigation by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and investigators of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. He will be sentenced in January.
