City of Rochester Tearing Down Vacant Properties

Vacant and blighted properties in the City of Rochester will soon be torn down. The city will demolish every home on its current demolition list- 175 houses - by the end of the current fiscal year. Mayor Lovely Warren says this will improve homes values and the quality of life in Rochester’s neighborhoods. The City’s Land Bank also received a $1.5 million grant to rehabilitate vacant homes and sell them primarily to first time home buyers. The Land Bank operations are paid for through state grant money, which is awarded from mortgage settlements the Attorney General’s office made with big banks after the housing crisis.
